About JDRF

JDRF is the only global organization with a strategic research plan to end T1D. Our mission is to cure, treat, and prevent type one diabetes (T1D).

T1D is an autoimmune disease. Its onset has nothing to do with diet or lifestyle. In kids and adults with T1D, the pancreas stops producing insulin, which is the hormone that converts food into energy. They need to get their insulin from an outside source, like a shot or pump.

Currently, JDRF has more than $530 million invested in T1D research projects worldwide.
More than 80% of every dollar donated to JDRF directly funds our research efforts to find a cure.

JDRF’s researchers are making tremendous advances in promising treatments & potential cures. In fact, history was made in late October as the first person with T1D was implanted with an experimental encapsulated cell replacement therapy called VC-01™. Encapsulated cell replacement therapies have the potential to fundamentally transform the management of T1D by restoring a person’s independence from insulin injections. The device is designed to replace a person’s lost insulin-producing ability while being protected from the ongoing T1D autoimmune attack. This is an incredible breakthrough and will be life-changing for those with T1D!

Funds raised from Hockey4aCure will bring JDRF closer to a cure for T1D! Thank you for your support!
